Are bloggers becoming obsolete with instagram influencers taking over?

As a blogger and I guess instagram influencer as I have both of those things this thought comes up a lot and I get asked about it a lot. More and more brands are looking for influencers to promote their products and get their name out to a different demographic. A lot of brands are also looking for instagram only promotions and about 50% of my AD work is now instagram only. But why is this?

There are a few reasons but also there are reasons that I don’t think blogs will ever completely disappear.

//01 Chatty captions

If people execute their ADs well they will put a detailed caption promoting the product and getting the key points out to their audience so it doesn’t need a whole blog post about it. If they have over 10k following they can also add it to their stories and have the swipe up option and can link back to webpages. The only thing that still gets me is when it is clearly and AD and it’s not being disclosed properly, everyone can see through it and there’s no reason not to now. It’s been made very clear by the ASA.

//02 It is normally cheaper

It is cheaper for brands to approach people for instagram promotions than a detailed full article on their website as that normally takes a lot more work, time and effort. Also with things like the Tribe app it makes Ad jobs easier for instagram.

    The number of blogs has continued to grow over the last ten years. Blogs privide long-lasting content. Most instagram posts are old news after 24 hours, plus instagram posts aren’t searchable like SEO blog content. So, my understanding is that we should be using Instagram and/or other platforms to drive traffic to blog posts.

    Blog content is longer lasting and searchable, whereas Instagram is a quick fix. On a personal level I am much happier that my best work goes on a platform that I control – my blog!
