As Lily gets older she adores being outside. It’s so cute and so funny, she loves playing with stones, sticks, flowers and everything outdoors basically. Which is nice because it gets me outdoors more too normally I’m stuck inside doing work or just nothing basically because I’m lazy.
One thing that Lily has really brought to my life as she’s getting older is also enriching my own life because I want her to experience everything and see the world. I didn’t get to as I grew up so it’s not only giving her those experiences but also giving myself them.
However, there the occasional days where the weather just isn’t cutting it and it’s raining non stop, you feel exhausted and going outside feels like you are trying to climb Everest. Basically, it ain’t gonna happen. Here are a few fun things me and Lily have been up to indoors when we needed to keep ourselves busy. I’m sure fellow mums will agree, toddlers have a short attention span so they don’t always focus or are interested in things for very long.
//01 [AD] Painting and crafts
Lily is still a bit young for complicated crafts but she just loves colouring and painting and getting messy. I just chuck one of my old tops on her now when she paints so it doesn’t go everywhere and saves money buying those aprons! We have been using paint sticks which have minimal to no mess and are so easy to use. No water needed, no paint pots. Just grab them and paint. You can pick them up here.
//02 Baking cakes
You can get cute little cup cake mixes with characters on and although Lily is still a bit young, she can stir the mixture in the bowl and try put some decorations on although, if she see’s chocolate she just eats it aha. But it’s a really fun thing to do, the only trouble is keeping them occupied while they cook and cool down because they will still just want to eat them regardless.
//03 Disney duvet time
Grab your duvet on the sofa, your favourite snack and a special drink for the little one whether thats tea/hot chocolate or some flavoured milk and a coffee for you (wine in a mug counts too) put on a Disney film or two and just have some quality down time. My top 5 favourite Disney films to watch with Lily at the moment are
- Toy Story
- Lilo and Stitch
This is also perfect for when they are poorly too (just add in a comic as well) I used to love duvet days when I was little and I am going to be doing it with Lily as well for sure. After the film, have a nap together. Sleep is always good.
//04 Make a fort
If anyone thinks forts are not cool, you don’t need them in your life. They. Just. Are. Simple. Pillows, maybe some ball pit balls thrown in and hidden away. Kids and toddlers just adore them and thing they are the best thing since McDonalds delivered. It also is a great way to keep them occupied for AGES.
//05 Make cleaning fun
I know this sounds like an impossible thing but it can be done. Try and make it into a game. Put a timer on and see who can put the toys away the quickest? Or maybe give them a scavenger hunt and on it they have to complete a chore or cleaning task to win and then they get a treat after. Give it a go! Let me know if it works haha.
What kind of things do you and your little ones get up to on Rainy days or when you have a day at home? Would love to find some new ideas, so let me know in the comments below!
