Myself and my fellow Coventry Blogger girls were invited to Escape Reality in Coventry. I honestly had no idea what to expect. I’ve seen escape rooms around for ages but I’ve never tried them and didn’t really know what they were all about. So I was really excited and we had opted to try the Down the rabbit hole room. I love Alice in wonderland and anything with that kind of vibe just gives me all the happy feels.
We were greeted by the most lovely staff with some Prosecco and Joe and Sephs salted caramel popcorn, which was so moreish and I could easily of had that tub by myself! Escape rooms are very secret as they don’t want to give much away so you lock your phone and belongings in some lockers and take the key with you. Keeping that in mind I won’t be disclosing the secrets and ways on how to get out of the room, you will have to go and try it yourself!
You are given 60 minutes in the room and the plan is to escape, there are different puzzles and tasks you need to do to get out of the room, some harder than others. You have a game master that give your back story and can come in and give you a clue or helping hand if needed. It feels like you are in a nice version of saw when they want to help and aren’t trying to kill you.
There are also clues in the room which can help if you get stuck like I 100% did. Looking back I probably shouldn’t have gone for the most difficult room for my first try as we definitely didn’t get out in 60 minutes. It is very exciting and when you do complete a task or move on to the next challenge you get a rush of adrenaline and accomplishment so even though we didn’t get out in 60 minutes we still completed it and it was so fun.
It is such a good idea for team building exercises for work colleagues as well as just doing it with your friends and family. I really want to go back and try one of the easier rooms they offer. They have a wide range of rooms, some I will 100% not be going in as they look creepy as hell and I am a wimp so I am thinking about the Jungala or Tortuga Pirates. They have so many other rooms you can see here in case you want to tackle them and be victorious in escaping in 60 minutes.
I think these kind of things are such a good alternative to going out to the pub or going drinking as someone who doesn’t get drunk and will only have the occasional drink at an event something like this is perfect for me. I would much rather do this than go and get drunk and forget the night. Whether you escape or not, it’s a really good night and tests your brain. If you live in Coventry or anywhere else with Escape realty you should 100% give it a go!
Have you ever tried an escape room? If so, please tell me about it, I have found a love for them and can’t wait to go back.
