To me, Pretzels are a very American thing, they have soft pretzel stands all over the place and they have always intrigued me. I love the crunchy little crisp like pretzels we have but I’ve never had one of the soft pretzels that when baked fresh just take over your mind by the smell. It’s better than the smell of freshly baked bread let me tell you.
Saffron from Pixie Bow UK and I were lucky enough to be invited to give the menu a try as well as making our very own pretzels. They make it look easy but it certainly is not. You get your dough, roll it out like a really long wiggly worm, then grab both ends and do some pretzel acrobatics they make the lovely and well known pretzel shape. It took a good few tries and at one point we both just gave up and cut them into bits to make pretzel bites. Then you cook them and add the toppings on.
I was quite surprised about the savoury toppings they do as well, I have always thought of pretzels as a sweet treat maybe a salted one like they have with popcorn but they had cheese, bacon and jalapeño ones. As it was a menu tasting we gave each to them a go. My favourite sweet one was the vanilla sugar it just tasted like cake and I am craving one right now as I type this to be honest. My favourite savoury one was the cheese and bacon, I really surprised myself but the flavours worked perfectly with the pretzel.
